LEICHHARDT TOWN HALL

Leichhardt Town Hall is located at Norton Street Leichhardt. It was built on 1888  by Governor Carrington, architect Darke and Walcott, with 5000 attending and a public holiday being declared for schools in the district and for general purpose hall. It has unique Victorian Academic Classical and Victorian Italianete style. It has a great array of classical representation and richly adorned facades. The tower clock was installed in 1897 to mark Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee. It was an extension of a square central tower of 27 metres which was built with the original structure. Moreover, this Town Hall marked as the 'coming of age' of the Leichhardt area which was undergoing a period of rapid development.
